Privacy Policy
Bogey Buddies helps golfers fill open tee times and find people to play with. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
What we collect
- Account info: your email address and password (passwords are stored hashed by our auth provider; we never see them).
- Profile info you choose to add: name, photo, handicap, home area and city, gender (optional), playing style, availability, bio, and favorite courses.
- Activity in the app: open spots you post or join, join requests, who showed up, group chats and messages, course ratings, scorecards and side-game scores, reports, and feedback you send.
- Alerts: if you turn on phone alerts, a push subscription token for your device.
- Invite links: if you arrived through a friend's link, the invite code they shared.
- Location, only when you use GPS: while you have GPS or Auto Track turned on during a round, your phone's location is used to show yardages. If you use Auto Track, the spot each shot was hit from is saved with that shot so you can see your stats.
- Motion sensors, only with Auto Track: your phone's motion sensors detect swings on the device itself. We don't store raw sensor data.
- Videos you choose to post: shot tracer videos you post to your profile (stored privately and shown only to signed-in golfers). Videos you only save or share to other apps never reach us.
- Social handles: Instagram or TikTok usernames, if you add them to your profile.
- Help conversations: questions you ask the in-app helper and messages you send our team, along with basic device info (browser, app screen) so we can fix problems.
- Payments: if you subscribe to Bogey Buddies+, Stripe handles your card. We never see or store your full card number. We only receive your plan, its status and the email on the purchase.
- Verified Woman selfies, only if you choose to verify: a selfie you take holding a one-time code. It's stored privately, seen only by the person on our team who reviews it, and permanently deleted as soon as it's approved or denied (or right away if you delete your account first). We never show it on your profile, share it, sell it, or use it to train anything, and we don't run facial recognition or create face scans, faceprints, or any other biometric data from it. We keep only a record that you were verified, how (selfie or vouches), and when.
- Vouches and reports: if Verified Women vouch for you, or someone reports a profile, we keep who vouched or reported, who it was about, the reason given, and the outcome, so we can keep women-only rounds safe.
- Basic technical data: things like sign-in times needed to run and secure the service.
Gender is optional. If you choose "Woman" and get verified, other signed-in golfers will see a Verified Woman badge on your profile.
We don't track your location in the background. Distance filters for open spots use the home area you pick and the course's location. Live location is used only while you have GPS on.
How we use it
- To run the app: show open spots, match golfers, deliver messages and alerts, and keep scorecards.
- To keep it safe: show-up records, reports, and blocking help keep flakes and bad actors out.
- To improve it: totals like how many rounds get filled help us decide what to build.
Who can see what
- Other signed-in golfers can see your profile and the open spots you post.
- Group chats and scorecards are visible only to the golfers in that round.
- Direct messages are visible only to the people in that conversation.
- Your email address is never shown to other golfers.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We use a few service providers to run the app, who process data only on our behalf: Supabase (database, sign-in, file storage), Cloudflare (website hosting and privacy-friendly visit counts without cookies), Stripe (payments, if you subscribe), Resend (account emails), Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap (weather, elevation and course maps, which receive course coordinates but no personal information), and your phone's push service (Apple, Google, or Mozilla) to deliver alerts. Course details come from OpenGolfAPI, which receives course searches but no personal information. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile any time.
- Turn off alerts in your phone's settings.
- Delete your account any time: Profile → Delete my account. This permanently removes your profile, posts, chats, scores, and ratings.
- California residents can ask what we've collected about them and ask us to delete or correct it. Use Help & support in the app. We'll respond within 45 days and won't treat you differently for asking.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, it's removed from our live database right away. Copies can remain in routine backups for a short time before they roll off.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and database access rules limit each person to what they're allowed to see. No system is perfect, so please use a unique password.
Age
Bogey Buddies is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a minor has an account, tell us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If we make important changes, we'll update this page and let you know in the app.
